Free Worm Composting Class 
Come see (and smell) a bin full of hundreds of worms turning food scraps into compost. This fun and interactive class discusses the advantages of the different types of worm bins, show you how to properly set up a worm bin and troubleshoot common problems. Great door prizes will be given away including worm bins and worms. Composting with Worms Class Federal Way City Hall Chambers (33325 8th Ave S) Thursday, July 29, 6-7:30 p.m. Classes are free, but registration is required. Clean Cart Challenge Winners - You Could be Next! This summer, Waste Management’s new Clean Cart Challenge Prize Patrol will visit Federal Way to reward recyclers. Households, multi-family complexes and businesses will be chosen at random each month. If the Prize Patrol finds that their recycling cart or container contains only acceptable recyclable materials, they’ll win a gift card valued up to $150. So, review the recycling guidelines, check your garbage and recycling containers for the proper materials and get ready to win!

Compost Bins & Kitchen Scrap Carriers Kitchen scrap carriers ($5), worm bins ($30) and compost bins ($40-65) are now on sale. The City of Federal Way is giving deep discounts on composters at select retailers. Composting "how-to" guides will be given with each composter purchase and a sample of biodegradable bags will be given away with each kitchen scrap carrier purchase. Auburn SuperMall Hazardous Wastemobile Open 2 Weekends Each Month
The Household Hazardous Wastemobile now operates at the Auburn SuperMall (located at the northwest loading dock to the right of Sports Authority) on the 1st and 3rd full 3-day weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) of each month - and this service is now available year-round. Hours: 10 am to 5 pm. Residents can bring their household hazardous waste directly to the Auburn SuperMall free of charge. Hazardous waste are materials in containers labeled "Warning", "Caution", "Danger", or "Poison", such as cleaners, solvents, pesticides, oil-based paint, hobby chemicals, automobile fluids and items containing mercury.
On a pilot basis, the site also accepts small quantities of hazardous wastes from businesses at no charge. Businesses must complete a form prior to bringing wastes. More Recycling and Garbage Information Waste Management collects garbage and recycling from residents and businesses in Federal Way, through a contract administered by the City. The Solid Waste and Recycling Division is primarily responsible for procurement of garbage and recycling services, as well as maintaining high standards for those services provided, while also helping customers to resolve service issues that may arise.
