Comprehensive Plan
The Federal Way Comprehensive Plan lays out a long-range vision for the future of Federal Way, generally over a 20 year time period. An interim comprehensive plan was adopted at the time of City incorporation in February 1990. After three years of preparation, including many community meetings, the Federal Way Comprehensive Plan was adopted in November 1995. As mandated by the state, the plan goes through a yearly update, with a major update every seven years. The plan available for download incorporates the latest update. The plan includes five chapters that are mandated by the Growth Management Act (GMA) and four optional chapters. The five required chapters are Land Use, Transportation, Housing, Capital Facilities, and Private Utilites.
