Municipal Court
The Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. The Municipal Court Judge is authorized by Washington State statute to preside over the following types of cases: civil and traffic infractions, criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors, and civil vehicle impound hearings. The Municipal Court schedules mitigation and contested hearings, arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing, and reviews. The Court provides related services including legal representation for indigent persons, work crew and probation supervision, and public defense screener services, to name a few.
The Municipal Court does not hear small claims cases or civil cases, change names, or issue passports or marriage licenses. MISSION: The Federal Way Municipal Court provides an accessible forum for individuals to resolve issues and to settle disputes in a fair, courteous and dignified way in accordance with due process of law.

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.* *The Court will be closed due to security reasons from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily. No payments accepted after 4:00 pm. Directions to Federal Way Municipal Court Individuals with Disabilities All Court facilities are accessible to individuals using wheelchairs. Drop Box A drop box is located at the Court entrance. You may drop off payments and/or hearing requests. Please include your name and case number on all documents. Do not pay by cash! Debit/Credit Payments We now accept MasterCard/Visa Debit and Credit card payments for fines and court costs. Payments can be made in person at the Municipal Court front counter until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, or online at our new Court (Citations) Payment Service. Please note: $3.65 Convenience Fee will be added for online services. Bail must be posted in cash, bonds or cashiers checks. No personal checks or Debit/Credit cards will be taken for bail. Prior to January 1, 2000... If you received a citation from the Federal Way Public Safety Department prior to January 1, 2000, you will need to contact the King County District Court at (206) 205-9200. Federal Way Prosecuting Attorney is located on the second floor of City Hall.
