Residential Crime Prevention (Back to Top) Block Watch - Home Security seminars are available to any size group upon request. Operational Identification - Engravers are available to citizens for the marking of valuables with their Washington State drivers license number. Residential Security Survey - Upon request, Crime Prevention personnel will inspect your home and provide you with helpful, practical suggetions for making your home more secure from crime.
Personal Safety Presentation (Back to Top) Presentations can be given on the following topics: - prevention on sexual abuse
- prevention on abduction
- General crime prevention for children
- Latchkey safety
- Babysitting safety
- Holiday safety
Presentations on other crime-related topics can be provided upon request. Crime Prevention pamphlets and handout materials are also available on various crime prevention tips. Citizen's Academy (Back to Top) Citizen's Academy offers members of the Federal Way Community a better understanding of the policies and procedures of the Federal Way Police Department. Participants learn about the men and women protecting their community and why they make the decisions they do. Class meets one evening a week for 8 weeks. Classroom sessions cover the basic functions of the Police Department (Patrol, Traffic, Investigations, Support Services etc.). Must be 18 years or older to participate. Senior Citizen's Crime Prevention (Back to Top) Programs specifically designed for seniors can be provided to any size group: - Stop Fraud - prevention for home equity skimming, telefraud, home improvement fraud, and miscellaneous con games.
- Senior Alert - general personal safety for senior citizens.
Neighborhood Speed Watch Program (Back to Top) Upon request, speeds in neighborhood streets are recorded by police volunteers. Registered owners of vehicles observed being driven in excess of the speed limit are notified by mail. This program is a public awareness program to make drivers aware of the neighborhood’s concern for speeding problems, and to encourage safe and prudent driving when traveling on neighborhood streets. Commercial Crime Prevention (Back to Top) The Crime Prevention Unit can provide training seminars to businesses, regarding prevention of burglary, shoplifting, armed robbery and fraud. Officers can also provide training on personal safety for employees. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D.) (Back to Top) A service offered for the review of proposed commercial or residential construction by a Crime Prevention personnel. This would aid in more security-minded construction before a structure is built. Crime Free Multi-Housing Program (Back to Top) Crime Prevention personnel can train landlords or property managers how to “actively manage” their properties. They also can provide information on such topics as preparing the property, applicant screening, rental agreements, apartment watches, promoting a sense of community and more.
