Community Center Construction Updates

  • Location:   Celebration Park, in central Federal Way
  • Size:         72,000 square foot building in a 10 acre project area
  • Schedule:  Begin construction July 2005. Open 2007.

Project Background

Construction of a new community center for Federal Way began in July 2005 in Celebration Park. The community center will serve the entire community with facilities and activities for everyone from young children to seniors. The center will have two wings: one wing will be dedicated to athletic activities; the other wing will be devoted to community-based activities.

This will be the first community center project of its type, and first construction of a major new building for the 15 year-old City of Federal Way. It will replace the existing Kenneth Jones Pool and the Klahanee Lake Senior and Community Center. Both are older buildings with many maintenance problems, and are no longer well-suited for their intended purposes. The highly anticipated community center will have a wide range of uses, as described below.
