EMPLOYMENT STATUS:      Seasonal, Part-Time

SALARY RANGE:                $11.00 - $12.50/hour

*NOTE: This position is during the time frame of the months of September through June, ranging from 12 to 15 hours per week.* 

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the After School Day Camp Leader will supervise, plan and lead daily recreational activities for up to 10 children, ages 5-12 attending afterschool program serving children from Twin Lakes, Mirror Lake and Sherwood Forest elementary schools. Program hours are from 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm, Monday through Friday. On “Early Release” days’ work hours will be from 1:30 pm to 6:15 pm. As a representative of the City of Federal Way Parks Department a STAFF shirt will be provided and must be worn during work hours.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Meet children at bus stop.
  • Supervise children’s activities including snack, reading, homework, crafts, swimming and gym games.
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with staff, parents and supervisor.
  • Enforce discipline policies and provide safety for the children at all times.
  • Render first aid in case of injury.
  • Write necessary accident/incident or other reports.
  • Attend required staff training and meetings.
  • Maintain professional image and positive attitude at all times.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Educational background in recreation, education, or child development preferred.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and supervising recreational and/or educational activities for children.
  • Current First Aid, Child and Adult CPR cards required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
  • responsible for own transportation to and from various job sites.
