*NOTE: This is a seasonal position, ranging from 32-40 hours per week with no benefits. 

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the direction of the Inclusive Coordinator, the Inclusive Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for the daily direction of site staff and program participants. The Inclusive Day Camp Supervisor will plan, implement, lead and evaluate daily recreational activities for up to 16 children and/or teens living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 6-18. The Inclusive Day Camp runs on (2) two weeks of the summer: July 10-14th and August 7-11th. The Inclusive Day Camp runs from 9AM-4PM, Monday through Friday from July 9th to August 17th. Successful applicants may be given additional hours in our other day camps during other weeks of Summer, if agreed upon. As a representative of the Parks Department, a uniform will be provided and must be worn during working hours.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Lead staff in the planning and teaching of various activities including, but not limited to arts and crafts, games, sports and songs for children with disabilities. Act as on site supervisor of up to 8 Inclusive Day Camp staff. Work closely with these staff in an enthusiastic, cooperative and supportive manner. Supervise and actively participate in group activities and serve as a positive role model. For participants and staff at all times. Lead staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of weekly activity schedules. Discuss and implement discipline plans with parents, Recreation Coordinator, other staff and participants. Work closely with all staff to develop a cooperative, supportive and enthusiastic atmosphere for children and parents. Oversee safety for participants and staff at all times. Render first aid in case of minor injury. Maintain contact with Recreation Coordinator. Plan and implement daily activities. Purchase and manage supplies. This includes maintaining an updated inventory of supplies and requesting needed supplies in a timely fashion. Oversee the cleaning of program areas and storing of equipment and supplies at the end of each day. Prepare and maintain required reports, including but not limited to, daily check-in/out sheets, daily schedules, and incident/accident reports. Prepare and distribute informational and promotional materials as needed. Attend required staff training. Conduct weekly staff meetings and others as needed. Maintain professional image and positive attitude at all times. Act as role model for staff and participants. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION: 

Must be at least 19 years of age. Educational background in Special Education, inclusive recreation, education, or child development preferred. Minimum of (1) one year experience in planning, implanting and supervising and/or educational activities for children living with disabilities ages 6-18. Supervisor experience preferred. Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and troubleshoot problematic situations in an independent manner is required. Valid Washington state driver’s license. Responsible for own transportation to and from various job sites. Current First Aid, Child and Adult CPR cards required. Ability to successfully pass a background check.

 

TIMELINE: 

  • Successful applicants should expect an interview by the end of March/April. This is subject to change.
  • If hired, applicants should expect to attend traning June 8, 20, 21, 22. These dates are subject to change.
  • If hired, applicants should expect to work on the 4th of July, at the City’s Red, White and Blues Fesitval.
