EMPLOYMENT STATUS:      Temporary, Part-Time

SALARY RANGE:                $14.00 - $20.00/hour

NOTE: This is a temporary, part-time position with no benefits. Hours may vary depending on facility usage. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours.  

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the general direction of the Performing Arts and Event Center (PAEC) Technical Supervisor, the Lighting Technician and Audio/Video technician perform a variety of duties related to stage/conference technical support within the PAEC while having considerable public contact in a fast-paced environment. These positions assist in supporting both community arts productions and professional touring events; serve as production equipment operators during technical rehearsals and performances; ensure that lighting, sound and rigging equipment are in proper working order and operating in a safe manner; install and assist in the maintenance of stage lighting, audio, and related technical systems; operate sound, lighting, communication and stage equipment; perform other related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assist with the load-in and operation of staging, lighting, backline, video and audio for events.
  • Operate all types of lighting equipment, including computer and manual lighting controllers, follow-spots, and theatrical, lighting instruments.
  • Operate all types of equipment including video equipment and projection equipment.
  • Safely operate a theatrical counterweight system, including the loading and unloading of arbors from both a loading bridge and stage floor.
  • Install both small- and large-scale symphony shells, including towers and flown ceilings.
  • Install and take down the equipment required for all Production Department events in the facility, including areas outside of the theater hall.
  • Conduct work in a technical position and know how to operate technical equipment during events, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Clean and maintain all theater production equipment and backstage areas.
  • Knowledge of practices, materials, resources, and tools associated with stage production.span>
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of the basic principles and philosophy of community and professional stage events.
  • Digital networking in AV and IT based systems; knowledge of router protocols, switches, etc.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions to be observed in working around stage equipment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to safely operate power tolls, hand tools, office equipment and materials appropriate to the specific job assignment.
  • Ability to respond to numerous public inquiries and disseminate accurate information while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform custodial duties in line with regular and specialized facility maintenance.
  • Ability to utilize computer applications and technology related to the work.
  • Ability to bend, climb, reach and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to work in low-light work environments.
  • Must be punctual and reliable; report to all work calls at the scheduled time.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

High School graduation or equivalent is required, plus 1 year of experience in a theater setting.
