EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary, Part-Time

SALARY RANGE: $13.00 - $16.00/hour

*NOTE: This is a part-time position working 16-40 hours per week with no benefits. Hours are based on building rental activity and schedules will be between 5:30am-9:00pm, 7 days a week.*

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the direction of the Chef/Kitchen Coordinator, the Cook will be responsible for offering healthy hand-prepared meals for a wide variety of dietary needs for guests which include overnight retreats, day meetings and social events. Staff must produce foods that are visually attractive and great tasting.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Preparing hot and cold meals and on time service during all rental activities. Clean up after meal services including, but not limited to removing bus tubs from banquet room, washing dishes, disposing of garbage and recycling. Preparation of multiple meals for more than one group at a time. Flexibility when dealing with customer requests. Communicate with the public by demonstrating a professional attitude as a representative of the City of Federal Way. Ensure the safety of guests and staff at all times. Commitment to scratch cooking and healthful foods. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have Washington State Food Handlers Permit.
  • Ability to correctly and safely use standard kitchen equipment including, but not limited to knives, ovens, broilers, mixers, meat and cheese slicer, steamers and mandolins.
  • Knowledge of principles for providing excellent customer service at all times in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other food preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge of standard catering presentation techniques.
  • Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and trouble shoot problematic situations in an independent manner.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check,
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Employee will be on their feet, majority of the shift.
  • Employee must be able to work under pressure and time deadlines during peak and non-peak hours.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUESTED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Current Serve Safe Certification.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
