* This is a temporary position, ranging from 20-40 hours per week.

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the direction of the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Community Recreation Assistant is responsible for providing leadership in the planning, organizing and administration of Summer Day Camp, Spring Break Camp, Holiday Camp, No School Days, Teen Camps and Afterschool program. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting with administration, planning, purchasing supplies for Community Recreation programs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Train and lead staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of weekly day camp and preschool activity schedules.  Schedule and coordinate all field trips including transportation.  Discuss and implement discipline plans with parents, Recreation Coordinator, other staff, and participants.  Work closely with all staff to develop a cooperative, supportive and enthusiastic atmosphere for children, parents, school personnel and program specialists.  Purchase and manage supplies including maintaining an updated inventory of supplies. Monitor and prepare budget for program area.  Oversee the cleaning of program areas and storing of equipment and supplies at the end of each day.  Prepare and maintain required reports, including but not limited to, daily attendance sheets, volunteer calendars, youth registration forms, camp brochures, activity logs, and incident/accident reports.  Input reports into Laserfiche with appropriate retention periods. Provide customer service by responding to emails, voicemails, and walk-in customers at the front desk.  Prepare and distribute informational and promotional materials.  Attend required staff training.  Supervise and train the Camp Supervisors and conduct weekly staff meetings or as needed.  Maintain professional image and positive attitude at all times.  Act as role model for staff and participants.  Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 21 years of age.  Educational background in recreation, education, or child development preferable.  Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in planning, implementing and supervising recreational and/or educational activities for children ages 6-12.  Supervisory experience preferable.  Ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, and trouble shoot problematic situations in an independent manner is required.  Valid Washington State driver’s license.  Ability to drive 15 passenger van.  Responsible for own transportation to and from various job sites.  Current First Aid, Child CPR and Adult CPR cards required.  Ability to successfully pass WSP Background Check.
