Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell and City Councilmembers will discuss priorities with our 30th District Legislative Delegation during a breakfast with Elected Officials in attendance at the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) Community Room on Monday, December 18, from 7:30-9 a.m.

As we look ahead to 2024, Mayor Ferrell said the Legislative Agenda discussion is critical. It will cover topics such as public safety, including the reinstatement of police pursuit laws, data on car theft and property crime impacts, transportation, a capital budget request, local control, and other initiatives.

These initiatives include condominium liability and housing affordability, environmental funding for EV chargers and electric vehicles, and City of Federal Way facility upgrades.

"Police pursuit laws will be our top priority during the 2024 State Legislative Session," said Ferrell. "I am taking proactive measures to equip our Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) officers with the necessary tools to safeguard our community against crime. My message to Legislators is to take immediate action β€” the existing pursuit laws in our state hinder law enforcement from effectively apprehending criminals and protecting communities.

"The crime in our region, not just Federal Way, is no secret. I am concerned about our community's well-being if the current police pursuit laws remain the same. It's unacceptable, and we will not tolerate thieves getting away with these heinous crimes in Federal Way."
