To prevent the spread of COVID 19 Federal Way Municipal Court provides the following information:
  1. Prefers that communication with the court be done via email at FW.Court@cityoffederalway.com
  2. Almost all out of custody hearings have been rescheduled to after April 24, 2020;
    1. Please email FW.Court@cityoffederalway.com or call 253-835-3000 if you have not received a new notice of hearing.
  3. In custody hearings are still being heard on an as needed basis.  Telephonic access is available to counsel;  
  4. All jury trials are rescheduled until after April 24, 2020;  
    1. Jurors that were summoned for trials in March and April do not need to report for jury service.  Please call 253-835-3001 for more details;
  5. All payment due dates have been extended 90 days;
    1. The court encourages payment online at www.officialpayments.com/pc_entry_cobrand.jsp?productId=529381599786414603597551651366107321 and by phone at 1-800-272-9829 by using Jurisdiction Code 5691. The amount owed will be reduced by $5.00 for anyone that pays online.  Please subtract the $5.00 from your online payment (Example:  If you owe $100.00, then only pay $95.00);
  6. Probation will meet with clients by telephone or email.  If you are on SCRAM or other drug or alcohol monitoring, please call probation at 253-835-3023 for instructions;
  7. The courthouse is open if court is in session, but security is authorized to deny admission to the courthouse if:
    1. Court is not in session;
    2. The person seeking admission is not conducting business with the court (i.e. paying a fine, seeking information about their case, etc.).

About the Court
The Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. The Municipal Court judge is authorized by Washington State statute to preside over the following types of cases: 
 
  • Traffic infractions
  • Criminal and gross misdemeanors
  • Civil vehicle impound hearings
The Municipal Court does not hear small claims or civil cases, change names or issue passports. The court strives to be an asset to the community through other programs that benefit the community. 
Mission
The Federal Way Municipal Court provides an accessible forum for individuals to resolve issues and to settle disputes in a fair, courteous and dignified way in accordance with due process of law.

 
 
Electronic Filing of Documents
You can electronically file documents with the court or probation on this website or by email or fax.  
 
Mediation
Our court and the Dispute Resolution Center of King County entered into an agreement to allow low cost mediations to take place at our local court.  This allows you to resolve disputes right here in Federal Way using trained mediators.  Click here for more information or call (206) 443-9603 and press menu item #1 or toll free at (888) 803-4696 and press menu item #1.
