Department Divisions
The City of Federal Way Public Works Department is managed by the Administrative Division and organized into six additional divisions.

Operations and Maintenance: Provides operations and maintenance of the city streets, and storm drainage infrastructure. Responsible for the maintenance of all non-police City vehicles and equipment.

Engineering: Administer the planning, design, and construction of major and minor city improvement projects.

Development Services: Reviews all engineering plans for residential and commercial development projects, as well as manages Franchise Utility Agreements and right-of-way permits and construction.

Environmental Services: Provides outreach and assistance with Solid Waste and Recycling services and options, and manages the utility and hauler contract. In addition, Surface Water Management works to keep our waterways clean and our community safe by managing stormwater runoff. Also provides education about our waterways and responds to issues if enforcement is needed.

Traffic: Provides transportation planning, traffic operation improvements, and neighborhood traffic services.
